Session ID: 209
Linux Container (not to be confused with Oracle 12c Container database) like Docker and LxC is the next-generation virtualization technology. Imagine having all the benefits of a hypervisor-based virtual machine, but with no performance overhead. Its this combination that makes containers ideal for databases, especially when running on bare metal. While the adoption of containers has been steadily increasing for many applications and databases, the Oracle community at large has been fairly sluggish.
In this session, I will attempt to raise awareness about the various linux container technologies, how they work, their pros and cons, and how they can be applied to Oracle database to gain higher consolidation and performance, and significantly reduce operations for DBAs.
Bring your laptop along and you can practise basic docker commands during this session.
Objective 1: Understand the benefits of using linux containers for data-centric apps like Oracle and other sql/nosql databases
Objective 2: Identify the best container technology to use for your applications and Oracle database
Objective 3: Install docker on you laptop, and execute basic commands to run docker containers
